Frequently Asked Questions

What metals are used to forge your armor?

All Craft Magick armor is forged from durable, tarnish-resistant 100% stainless steel components, including charms, accents, and pendants — unless otherwise noted.

Stainless steel grades used in our construction are usually either 304-series or surgical grade 316L, and some armor may contain both grades.

This ensures each piece is tarnish-resistant, resilient, and ritual-ready.

Some accessory components (such as key rings) may be made from 400-series stainless steel. These are intended for accessories only, not for direct body wear. While perfectly safe for everyday use as key rings or functional accessory components, they should not be repurposed into jewelry — especially if nickel sensitivity is a concern.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:

Avoid bleach, sulfur-based products, other harsh or abrasive chemicals or abrasive brushes.

It is *highly* recommended not to submerge your Craft Magick armor in salt water to ensure it remains ritual ready!

If you want to be extra careful:

Stainless steel is highly tarnish-resistant and won’t turn skin green under normal wear. Although resistant to tarnishing, it is recommended to completely dry Craft Magick armor after showering, exposure to sweat, or swimming in pool water for maximum preservation. Store dry.

Otherwise, you may swim, sweat, and shower in your jewelry without fear.

The metal endures.

Is your jewelry safe for sensitive skin?

Our pieces are made with high-quality stainless steel (typically 304 or 316L).

Components like key rings may be 400-series stainless. Components made of 400-series stainless steel are not meant to be worn against the body. We do not suggest repurposing components on our accessories lines for body-wear, especially if a nickel allergy may be present.

While stainless steel is generally well-tolerated and hypoallergenic for most wearers, it may contain trace amounts of nickel.

If you have a known nickel allergy or sensitivity to metals, we *highly* recommend avoiding stainless steel jewelry to prevent potential irritation.

Customers are responsible for confirming material compatibility before purchase.

If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.

All sales are final and we do not accept returns or exchanges for allergic reactions.

How do I care for my new armor?

**Please read our entire care section to ensure the longevity of your Craft Magick armor.**

Unless otherwise noted, all of our components including charms, clasps, and pendants are made of 304 or 316L stainless steel, both of which are highly tarnish-resistant.

Best Practices for Cleaning Your Armor

For Steel-Only Pieces:

1. Mix a solution of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap in a bowl.
2. Dip a soft-bristled toothbrush or cloth into the solution.
3. Gently scrub the stainless steel armor, paying attention to any crevices or hard-to-reach areas.
4. Rinse the armor thoroughly with warm water.
5. Dry the armor with a soft cloth.

For Accented Pieces:

Some of our pieces include natural gemstones, and extra precautions should be taken when cleaning gemstone-adorned armor so as not to damage the accents.

Common Gemstones That Should Not Get Wet:

These are porous, soluble, or delicate, meaning water (and especially soap/chemicals) can damage them:

  • Selenite (gypsum family) → will literally dissolve in water.
  • Hematite → iron-based, prone to rusting or tarnishing.
  • Lapis lazuli → porous, can absorb water/soap, dulling its surface.
  • Malachite → porous copper carbonate, water + oils = damage.
  • Turquoise → porous, easily absorbs water/soap/oils.
  • Howlite → porous and can discolor with water/soap.
  • Pearl, opal, coral, amber (organic/soft gems) → water can cause dulling, cracking, or changes.

Gemstones That Are Generally Safe in Water:

  • Quartz family → clear quartz, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, smoky quartz
  • Agates, jaspers, chalcedony
  • Garnet
  • Spinel

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL PIECES:

Avoid bleach, sulfur-based products, other harsh or abrasive chemicals or abrasive brushes.

Do you use real gemstones in your jewelry?

Yes. Craft Magick pieces are made with natural gemstones whenever possible. We avoid man-made, dyed, heat treated, resin-stabilized, plated, or otherwise artificially altered stones, with very few exceptions:

  • Hematite — often re-formed for its shine. We occasionally use it in this form, never titanium-plated or gold-plated, since plating may fade or wear down over time. This ensures your armor remains both beautiful and durable for long-term wear.
  • Glass or cubic zirconia — may be used occasionally for color accents when a natural stone alternative is unavailable. If used, this will be made clear in the product listing.
  • Wood beads (such as sandalwood or rosewood) — may be used selectively for their natural texture and aesthetic.

In addition to natural stones, we may use coral, natural or cultured pearls, shells, seeds, bone or horn components in our armor.

We do not use:

  • Lab-grown diamonds
  • Lab-grown gemstones (ruby, sapphire, emerald, etc)
  • Stabilized stones (such as resin-stabilized turquoise)
  • Opalite
  • ABS
  • Epoxy
  • Resin
  • Polymer clay
  • Acrylic
  • Plastic components
  • Metalized plastic beads
  • Foil-back cabochons

Why this policy?

Our priority is authenticity, durability, and integrity. Natural stones carry the energy, beauty, and uniqueness that align with Craft Magick’s ethos. However, supply chains can be volatile, and in rare cases we may choose glass or cubic zirconia accents to maintain creative freedom without compromising safety or quality.

What this means for you

  • If a piece is made with natural stone, it will be described as such.
  • If glass, cubic zirconia, or wood accents are used, this will always be disclosed.
  • You will never find plastics, acrylics, or deceptive labeling in our work.

Craft Magick stands by the integrity of its materials. Every decision balances truth in design with the ability to continue creating armor that endures.

Usage & Safety

Usage & Safety

Talismans, not tether points. The O-rings in these pieces are ceremonial accents—never anchors. Wear with intention; do not use them to bear weight or restrain.

About O-rings: Some designs include decorative O-rings. These components are for aesthetic wear only. They are not intended for bondage or any form of load-bearing use. Craft Magick is not responsible for injury or damage resulting from use outside the intended purpose.

  • Decorative O-rings are not load-bearing and not a safety device.
  • Do not use for restraint, suspension, or any activity that puts force on the ring or chain.
  • Use only as intended; misuse may result in injury or product failure.

Do you work in any other colors or metals?

Craft Magick armor is forged exclusively in stainless steel, typically 304 or 316L.

We do not use aluminum, brass, copper, silver, or gold in our armor.

Precious metals such as sterling silver or gold are not easily available, as sourcing the correct materials may not be possible, and working in softer metals would compromise both durability and design integrity.

If you require a completely nickel-free build, we recommend reconsidering our offerings, as stainless steel may not meet your needs. In that case, a jeweler who specializes in silver or gold may be a better fit.

We’re truly honored by your consideration of Craft Magick for your armor, and while we cannot provide nickel-free pieces, we encourage you to find a maker who can meet your needs safely.

Necklace Length Reference

  • 15" — Short (choker/collarbone)
  • 17" — Standard (classic necklace)
  • 19" — Long (below collarbone)
  • 21" — Extra Long (upper chest)

Bracelet Length Reference*

  • 6" — Extra Small (slender wrists, snug fit)
  • 7" — Small (classic fit, most common size)
  • 8" — Medium (comfortable fit, average men’s wrist / looser women’s fit)
  • 9" — Large (roomy fit, broad wrists or oversized style)

*For a looser fit, size up one inch

Sizing is subject to your preferences and how you feel most comfortable wearing your armor.

Most of our chainmaille is made with an added extender, allowing your new armor to be adjusted to your preference.

For the best fit, we suggest measuring the circumference of the area you plan to wear your new armor, and order the size that closest fits that length without consideration for the extender.

A simple reliable method is to grab some masking tape and snugly (not tightly) tape around the area of your body where you'd like your armour to sit, then carefully cut the tape and measure it on a flat surface

In our product descriptions, the wearable area of a chain is listed without accounting for the extra length the extender provides. For example, if it says 14", it is 14" plus a 2" extender, for a total of 16" in length.

Sizes on our website are what we have available. Variants may become available in the future.

If you wish to order a custom length not listed under a product, please refer to our customs order page here.
